The Colour Poem Project is On Again!

We were excited when Mrs McK received a tweet from her friend Mrs Yollis in California,
inviting us to join the Colour Poem project again this year.

This year the project kicked off with poems about
black and white.

Our class wrote this poem, using the Måori words
Må (white)
and Pango (black).

We tweeted our poem, using the #clrpoem hashtag.
By using the hashtag, we get to read all of the poems, from all around the world, even if we don't follow the classes on Twitter.

Each week, the poems will be about a colour on the visible spectrum - the colours of the rainbow -
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet

Here is an easy way to remember the order:
R O Y G B I V

This week, the colour is RED.

What do you like about the colour red?

'Birdman' Competition

Autumn has arrived, so it is the end of our
swimming season for now.
To end the season, our
home and school group RASCA
(Reefton Area School Community Association)
held a birdman competition at the school pool.
Three events were held - a rubber-band boat race, the biggest splash, and the Birdman competition.

Everyone had a lot of fun and some people are already planning for next year's competition.

What would you create for a winning entry?

Making Mindfulness Jars

Sarah and Shelly have been coming this term and taking us for Mindfulness.
Doing Mindful breathing, moving and eating can help us to calm our minds.
Mindfulness can help us if we feel worried or upset.

We made mindfulness jars.
We put some water with a little glue powder into the jars, added some food colouring, then sprinkled lots of big and little glitter in.
Finally, we glued around the lids before screwing them onto the jars.

When we shake the jars the water and glitter acts like a snow storm.
The glitter represents our busy thoughts.
Just as the glitter settles to the bottom of the jar, our thoughts can settle and become quieter.

What do you do to settle your thoughts?
Have you done Mindfulness?
