#NZreadaloud - Gavin Bishop

For the next two weeks we are taking part in the Yr 1/2 #NZreadaloud.
We will be reading lots of stories by New Zealand author Gavin Bishop and we will be posting about our learning on the readaloud blog here.

We read Gavin Bishop's version of 'Chicken Licken'
and compared it to another version we have in our class.

The endings were quite different. One is sadder than the other!

We voted on which ending we each preferred.

Let us know which ending you prefer!

Kiwiana Pictures

During our first week back at school, the children made artworks with Mrs. W, to enter into the local A and P Show.
(A and P means Agricultural and Pastoral).

They based their artworks on Kiwiana - items that relate to our unique culture and heritage in New Zealand.

Green-screening Our Holiday Stories

Our first class attempt, in 2015, at using a green-screen as we danced, was a bit raggedy
This year, we have had more success using a green-screen.
We recorded our summer holiday stories in front of the screen then used the Doink app to put us into our drawings.

Summer Holiday Art

The children spent some time during the first week back at school for 2016 making art works to enter into the local
A & P Show
(Agricultural and Pastoral Show).
The art works had to reflect an activity from over the summer break.
Some students chose to use water-colour pencils and others chose to use pastels.

A Song to Finish the Colour Poem Project

The colour poem project has come to an end.
For our final contribution we would like to sing a song about the colour names in Måori.

Mā is white,
whero is red,
kākāriki green
Pango is black,
Mangu is too,
A. E. I. O. U.

Kōwhai yellow,
parauri brown,
kikorangi blue
Mawhero pink
Karaka orange,
A. E. I. O. U.

Some of us are wearing pink for Pink Shirt Day - a day where people stand up against bullying.

Do you know some colour words in another language?

Art For the A and P Show

Many districts around New Zealand have A&P Shows (Agricultural and Pastoral Shows).
The shows are an opportunity for town and country to meet.

This year is the 105th A&P Show for our district.
There are animals to look at, horse events, fairground rides and games, competitions for domestic skills, art and photography competitions, and much, much more!

The students in B4 have made some art works to enter in the Junior art section.
Their art works are based on the theme of summer.

Mrs McK is going to enter a jar of her home-grown, home-made raspberry jam in the produce section!
Doesn't it look delicious?

Have you ever been to an A&P Show?
What is your favourite ride at the show?
