Feeding the Calves

We are a rural town and many of the B4 children live on farms or have experienced farm life.
Spring is in the air and calves are arriving.
Calving is a busy time for families and
many of the children help out.
Feeding the calves has been a hot topic in class, and we hope you enjoy our stories.

What season is it where you live?
Have you been around baby animals?

The Best Way to Learn

What were we doing?
You could say we were learning to: work together; solve problems; share and take turns; test predictions; locate information; help each other;
but WE say we were just having FUN!

What kind of fun do you have at school?
What learning activities do you like at school?

Pass the Ball

In PE we've been practicing our ball passing and catching skills.

Which games do you think this passing technique would be used in?

Pacific Flowers

Every couple of years we enjoy doing an art unit with Mrs Wistrand about Pacific Patterns.
In the past we've looked at Pacific Shells and
these Pacific Patterns.

This year we've made Pacific Flowers by covering our paper with dye then drawing the flowers using cotton buds and bleach.

Did you notice which Pacific animal sneaked into some of our patterns?
Have you ever made an art work using bleach?
What is your favourite media to use for art?

Our Kite Poems

Our kite poems are modeled on a page of a book called
'The Adventures of a Kite', written by the late

We noticed Margaret Mahy used some features such as alliteration and onomatopoeia.
Can you spot those language features in our poems?

Our good friend Mr Salsich, from Connecticut, USA
has sent us the link to his
Global Kite wiki.
Check out the amazing kite projects from around the world!

Have you written a poem you could share with us?

Putting the Effort In - 100 Medals 1908-2012!

An exciting aspect of these Olympic games for New Zealand is that our 100th Olympic medal has been earned in the Olympics games.
We are a small country and our Olympic athletes become household names and role-models to many.
Here is a video showing the New Zealand Olympians from 1908-2012 who have earned the 100 medals.

(Thank you to our friends in Room 24, TIS for the link to the video.)

Do you have a sportsperson that you admire?
What are the qualities that person has that you find admirable?
What lessons can we learn from our Olympians?

Flying High

We've been playing around with kites as part of our
Social Studies topic 'Flying High in Asia'.
This week we brought our own kites from home and worked together to put them together and to fly them.
As part of our topic we're going to be exploring
kite festivals in Asia.

Louisa has written about flying her kite:
Have you ever been to a kite festival?
Have you flown a kite?
What shape was it?
