Writing with a Purpose

Our global connections provide numerous opportunities for authentic, purposeful writing.
This morning some children were working in pairs
to add comments to the posts
on the 'Our World, Our Stories' blog.

Others were writing letters to send back to
in Northern Ireland.
During the holidays we had received not a postcard but  a CUPCAKE card from them.
The cupcake was decorated with lots of little jewels.

What kind of writing do you like to do?

  3. Dear B4,

We love using our blog to visit our buddies around the world. Leaving comments and hearing back from other students is a fun way to practice our writing. We like to write independently, with a partner, and in a large group. Some of our favorite things to write about are songs, our pets, food, and our family.

  4. Dear B4,

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your comments and replies in the Our World, Our Stories blog. I notice that you use capitalization at the beginning of each sentence and punctuation at the end! Well done!

Did you know that there are four kinds of sentences? Yes, there are!

    1. statement (It tells something.)

I like B4 because they are smart students who work hard.

    2. question (It asks something.)

    Did you proofread your comment?

    3. command (It tells you to DO something.)

Use your best vocabulary when writing a comment.

    4. exclamation (It shows excitement or strong feeling)

They have a swimming pool at the school!

Which is your favorite kind of sentence?
