Here's Harold!

We've been visiting with Harold this week,
in his Life Education mobile classroom.

During this year's visit we learned about the journey our food takes through our bodies.
We also learned about the food pyramid.
The biggest part, at the bottom of the triangle is green, for foods that come from the ground.
(Most of our food each day should come from this group).

The middle part is orange,
and covers foods that come from animals.
(Some of our food each day could come from this group).

The small tip of the triangle is red,
for foods that have ingredients, particularly salt, sugar and fat.
(Very little of our food should come from this group).

What have you learned from Harold's classroom?
Does Harold come to your school?

      Dear Joey
Thank you for your comment. :)
There are 22 students in my classroom. They are 6 and 7 years old.
Each year we look forward to Harold's mobile classroom coming to our school. In the photo that's Harold on the outside of the classroom. Are you surprised to see who Harold is?

My favourite fruit are kiwifruit and oranges.

What is your favourite subject at school?

    2. Dear Mrs. McKenzie and B4,

Thank you for replying. There are 23 kids in my class. We are mostly 10 and 11. You asked if I was surprised to see who Harold is. Is he the giraffe on the side of the truck? If he is the giraffe I was very surprised.

Thank you for sharing your favorite fruit with me. I have never heard of kiwifruit. What does kiwifruit taste and look like?

You asked what my favorite subject is. It is Math.

  3. Dear B4,

My class has not meet Harold but we have learned about the food pyramid. What type of greens grow there and what animals do you eat? My favorite greens are apples and raw green beans.

What grade do you teach? I'm in fifth grade, my favorite subject is math ,spelling and science.

  4. Dear Paul
Thank you for visiting our blog. :)
I imagine the greens we eat are very similar to the plants you eat - peas, beans, lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, cucumber, peppers and spinach are just a few.

The animals we eat include poultry (chicken, duck, turkey), fish, cattle (beef), pigs (pork, bacon, ham etc) and deer (venison).

I teach Year 2 and 3 which would be the same as Grade 1 and 2. I mainly teach reading, writing and maths. I hope you've enjoyed your 5th grade year?

    warm wishes
    Mrs McKenzie

  5. Dear B4,

Great Post! I loved how you talked about the food pyramid. Last year My class did something like that except the pyramid had the categories of food like dairy and grains and the most important one vegetables but their where other ones like fruit. Also what is Harold and his life education mobile classroom?????
