Ryan writes a great comment

Ryan is a student in Mrs Yollis' 3rd grade class in California. They have only been learning about writing blog comments since school started there again a couple of week ago, and already he can write a good blog comment.
He replied to a comment that we left on their class blog.
What did Ryan do well?
Ryan referred to the content of our comment.
He told us something about the learning that his class are doing.
He told us which class he belonged to, and only used his first name.
And he asked us some questions to keep the conversation going.
Ryan also wrote in sentences and used correct spelling and punctuation.

Well done Ryan. We hope to hear from you again.

B4 children, you could comment and let Ryan know what your favourite subjects are at school.

Mrs Yollis has taught us a lot about quality comments.

    Keep up your great commenting!

    To Jaden
I have noticed that you are pretty good at commenting as well, and I think that you must also be hoping for your own blog one day!
What are the topics that you most like to blog about?

To Mrs Yollis, and to Miss McGeady and 2KM
It's great that the children all have the opportunity to comment on the class blogs. My class are still early learners in the art of commenting, but we are getting there.
Our school holidays start on the 24 September, for two weeks.

  5. Dear Mrs. Mckenzie and class,
I am a third grade student in Mrs. Yollis' class. I recently read about and saw pictures of the earthquake that hit New Zealand on Sept. 4. Did you feel it? Was it scary? Was there any damage to your community?

  6. Dear Miriam
Thank you for your comment. Yes, we did feel it in Reefton, even though we are on the opposite side of the South Island to Christchurch. Actually, a lot of the children from my class didn't feel it, they stayed asleep.
The people in Christchurch have been feeling lots of aftershocks for the past week that we haven't felt, so it hasn't been too scary for us.

I have been checking my emergency kit so when I was in Nelson yesterday I bought a new torch. It has a wind-up dynamo, so we don't need batteries. It also has a radio on it, and I can use the torch to re-charge a cellphone. It's an amazing torch!

I know California has earthquakes. Does your family have an emergency kit?

  7. Dear Mrs. McKenzie,
We also have an emergency kit. The last big earthquake to hit Los Angelas was before I was born, in 1992. My mother told me it had a magnitude of 6.7 and it was scary.

  8. Dear Miriam
    Thank you for commenting back.
I remember seeing coverage of that earthquake on TV in 1992.
I'm glad your family is prepared for unexpected events.
I have been interested to read your class posts.
I wonder what your lucky hat looked like? I have a favourite number, which is 23, but unfortunately I don't think it's particularly a lucky number,
