Show, Don't Tell

Recently the children in Mr Salsich's class and
the children in Miss McGeady's class have been learning to show how a character feels by using descriptive words.

We enjoyed reading the descriptions so
this week we had a go too.

Show, Don't Tell.

Did you spot some descriptive similies?
Can you visualise how each person
was feeling?

  3. Dear B4,

You have done an excellent job using details to describe feelings! I could really picture how the different people were feeling.

Some of the great similes I noticed were: I jumped around like a kangaroo, I was crying like a thunderstorm, I was shouting like a gorilla, I ran like a cheetah, and I felt jollier than a dancing hippo.

What wonderful descriptions - and I enjoyed flipping the pages of your "book."

    From,
    Mr. Salsich

  4. Dear B4,
I really enjoyed reading your writing! You all did such a fantastic job of describing each feeling.

I am going to show your book to my students. Maybe they will want to write about feelings too.

    Keep up the great writing,

    Mrs. W

  6. Dear Emily
You wrote that tears were rolling down your cheeks, so when I visualised that, it made me think that you were sad. Am I right?

Dear Mr Salsich and Mrs Watson
Thank you for reading our writing. We had a lot of fun with it. It is always nice to have an authentic audience.
