Inspired by Eric Carle

This term our art work is being inspired by Eric Carle.
After reading some of his books
we used paint with toothbrushes, sponges, brushes, plastic knives and fingers to create textural effects, then used our painted sheets of paper to create an artwork.
The focus as we created our firefly artworks
was to have texture, balance and symmetry.

'Firefly' on PhotoPeach

How did we do?
What is your favourite Eric Carle book?

The firefiy’s was cool because they are so colourful. I might do one at home. I wish we could take them home to show Dad but maybe we’re going to take them home.

  7. Dear B4,

I loved your slideshow about making the fireflies. They all turned out so beautiful! I like how you mixed the colors together to create textures and then cut them apart to make collages, just like Eric Carle.

When I was really young my favorite book was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I asked my mom to read it to me over and over. I always liked the part when he ate through the salami and got a tummy-ache. I thought that was funny.

Congratulations - your firefly paintings look luminous! Josiah in our class chose a book titled 'Sam and the Firefly' as his favourite book. It was fun to see what your fireflies looked like after we'd seen the pictures in Josiah's book. We liked your fireflies a lot more. Do you have fireflies in New Zealand? No one in Room 3 has actually ever seen one. From Room 3 and Mrs Nelson
