Playground Songs

Recently Hawes Primary in England put up a post about playground clapping games.
You can view their videos here, and here and here.

They were keen to find out about playground songs from around the world,
so Mr Salsich and his class put up a post on their blog with a playground song that they know.

Mrs Kistler and the 49ers in San Antonio, Texas have also got some videos up. Check them out here.

Mrs Hembree and the Bellbulldogreaders have their
videos here.

Mrs Lynch and Grade 1 have videos here.

Some of our Year 3,4 and 5 girls have been doing playground songs at our school, so here are our contributions:

Hey Mr Postman
do your duty.
Here comes along Miss American Beauty.
She can do the pom-pom
she can do the twist,
But I bet you five bucks
she can't do this...
ABC
Old mella, kiss a fella
lazy boy, ping pong.
Old mella, kiss a fella
lazy boy, ping pong.
Turn around,
touch the ground.
Freeze like this

We would love to see playground songs from more countries.
 Please put links to
Hawes Primary, Mr Salsich and Open the door to b4
on your post.

  1. What a great post! i very much like both clips, but the second one is my favourite, I like the pace.
I think we are going to have to post translations for two reasons.
1, The children want to practice and forget the words.
2, All those little differences in accent tricking our ears.

We have posteda link to B4 on our blog. I can't believe that we hadn't done so before.

    Lovely post
    Thank you

  2. Hello Mr E
I wondered about needing a translation of the words, so I will put it on!
I made the girls slow right down, as they like to race through.
I was quite impressed that they can include as many people as they wish in the song.
Our class liked the 'Sailor went to Sea' chant from your school and the hands were busy trying to keep up as we listened. I can see a new craze coming on!

    regards

  3. Dear B4,

The girls did an amazing job singing and clapping in unison. I was especially impressed with how they were clapping hands with the people on both sides! I enjoyed the words very much, especially the one about the postman. It was cool the way the girls kept moving their feet farther apart.

Our class has been talking about whether or not boys can do playground songs also. Some boys have said they are too hard to do and they just "mess it up" and other boys have said that they could do it, but they never practice. I wonder what your class thinks.

  4. Hi B4,
Thanks for posting some of your favourite playground songs. We've really enjoyed watching the ones from Hawes Primary School and from Mr. Salsich's class too.
I couldn't believe how many people the girls managed to get involved in one clapping song - great effort!

@Mr. Salsich: I know what you mean about boys being involved. I only have 4 girls in my class and they were the first to be getting in on the clapping fun but the boys couldn't resist the temptation of joining in (some of them anyway).

    Thank you all for sharing.

  9. Dear B4,

I am slowly finding more links to the playground songs. I will share yours Monday with my students. The kids absolutely love to hear how other kids play. We've posted some class favorites on our blog, too.

  10. Dear B4,
We loved the playground clapping games and were quite amazed at how the kids were able to do them in groups. We had never seen anything like this before. The students at our school hadn't done any clapping games before, but because of your videos and Mr. E's we are going to give it a go!

Thank so much for sharing them,
    Mrs. W and the 2/3's

  11. Dear B4,
Thanks for visiting our blog and watching our clapping games. Your songs are great, too. It is fun learning all these songs. I don't think we had clapping songs when I was little.
