Robots, Volcanoes and Little Pink Ponies

We are having such good fun in maths with our

The pink ponies were surrounded by dangers
(a volcano, some sharp 'swords', the stinging bees and the eye-pecking birds).

They needed to be saved, so we sent in the robots.
Robots can do jobs that are too dangerous for people to do,
but they can only do what they are instructed to do,
so the programmers had to be very careful to give good directions.
We had to use words such as left, right, forward, back, pick up, put down, & end.
We used trial and error to get our programming correct, and we really had to make sure we knew left from right!

Some of us had to rewrite our instructions to
re-programme the robot, but each of the robots saved the ponies in the end.

We had a great laugh when Ben commanded Robot Taylah to go and pick up Mrs McK!

Do you have a good way to remember left from right?

Taking Part in 'Hour of Code' This Week

The Hour of Code is a world-wide global movement towards teaching coding in schools.

Here is a screenshot of all the schools that have registered to join in.

The students in B4 are excited to be taking part!

You can try out the Hour of Code tutorials here.
We liked the Angry Birds tutorial.

You can play the Frozen coding game here.

Have fun!
Let us know how you get on with the challenges.

Concentrating on Coding

One of the coding apps we enjoy using is LightBot, which we heard about through our Room 4 blogging buddies.

The robot has to be programmed to light up some tiles.
Our current class champion is Ben!

Now, thanks to Mrs McKenzie's Twitter friends, we have another coding game to try.
If you are a fan of the movie Frozen,
here is a coding challenge for you!

Remember to ask your parents if you can sign up, or just use the open version.

Do you know of a  coding game that we might enjoy trying?
