Look After Our Heritage - Old or New? What's Your View?

The children in B4, B5 and B3 are working on a Social Studies inquiry into heritage buildings. 

We have a number of heritage buildings in our small town. 

Our class went for a walk to look closely at, and sketch, features of some of our buildings.

They had time for a little play as well!

Quite a lot of time and energy goes into preserving and caring for these buildings.

Sometimes people want to make changes to them, while others want them to remain the same for ever.

Here are some of the ideas we are inquiring about:

Should old buildings be treasured and looked after, or do new buildings suit our needs better? 

Participating and Contributing - Athletics Day

Athletics Day gives the B4 children a great opportunity to display the Key Competencies of 

Participating and Contributing.

Mrs. McK was lucky enough to be with the Yr 3s as they went to each of the events.

It was wonderful to see the children competing well, and supporting each other.

Hello to Our Quad-Blogging Buddies

This year we are going to be quad-blogging with three other classes in New Zealand.

Quad-blogging was an idea originally developed by 

Deputy Mitchell in England, 

as a way for four classes to connect via their class blogs.

Over the years, the children who have been in B4 have 

quad-blogged with classes overseas, and in New Zealand.

We are looking forward to meeting our 2017 friends and sharing some learning together!

Kiwiana Pictures

During our first week back at school, the children made artworks with Mrs. W, to enter into the local A and P Show. 
(A and P means Agricultural and Pastoral).

They based their artworks on Kiwiana - items that relate to our unique culture and heritage in New Zealand.

What are some items that reflect your culture and heritage?

Friendship Salad

Today was our first day back at school after the summer break and everyone was excited to be back with old and new classmates.

After talking about friendships and working together, everyone helped to make a friendship salad.

In went some grapes -these are the students in the class - the good helpers and friends inside and outside of the room.

In went some apple to show the hard workers that always try their best in everything they do;

some pineapple to show the children that share and take turns;

marshmallows to show the kind sweet words being said in our classroom;

and yoghurt to show the happiness we feel when we are in school together.

No one wanted to add the rotten banana! 

Rotten bananas might cause trouble in our room such as calling people names, or refusing to do the work, or not sharing!

Finally everyone enjoyed eating the yummy friendship salad.

'Movin' It at the Zoo' - Celebration of Learning 2016

Today is our last day of the 2016 school year.

Last night we presented our class item at the school's Celebration of Learning.
