Wind Power

Following on from the science investigation into fabrics,

the students were given a technology challenge to design a wind cart that could travel 2 metres powered only by wind.

The science work on fabrics would help when making decisions about the best sails to use!

Materially Speaking

In Science with Mrs.W this term, the children been learning about fabrics.

We've found out that materials/fabrics are made of fibres.
Some fibres are natural, such as wool, cotton and flax.

Some fibres are man-made, such as nylon.
Fibres can be spun into yarns, and yarns can be woven or knitted into fabric.

Sheep's wool can be spun into yarn.

We explored a range of fabrics, looking at properties, and sorting into groups.

We did some investigations.

Some fabrics are easier to rip than others.

Some are more absorbent - that means that they soak up liquid.

Over the next few weeks we will be using our learning as we work on a technology challenge!

Elefly, Butterphant, Belephant?

We had some fun at the end of term looking at some hybrid animals and doing some moment in time writing.

A hybrid animal is a mixed breed animal - the animals in these photos were created through PhotoShop!

We chose to write about the elephant with butterfly ears. 
We thought of a number of variations on the words elephant and butterfly to name it!

Our extra challenge was to include a sentence that began with a verb!

Everyone was very proud of their work!
