Beeswax Lunch Wraps

Last term, during our recycling unit, we learned about making re-usable lunch wrappers from cotton fabric and beeswax.

This weekend it is the school's 'Fog Festival' gala, so we've decided we will make and sell

As making the cloths wasn't a safe activity for the class to do, Mrs W. and Mrs McK. got together during the term break and made the first batch, and Mr McK helped make a second batch!

Grating the beeswax was time-consuming and we had to watch out for our fingers!

Sprinkling the beeswax onto the cotton.

Cooling the beeswax cloths once they were out of the oven.

Mmmm, they smell like honey!

This week the B4 students are learning about and making advertisements to persuade people to buy our waxy lunch wrappers!

We learned about using rhetorical questions (a question that you don't expect to get an answer for, but it makes people think about the topic).
That was a lot of fun!

We made sure we listed some selling points too.

Now we can't wait for the Fog Festival!

What are the benefits of using a beeswax cloth to wrap your lunch?

  1. I enjoyed the Beeswax Lunch Wrap post. Best of luck to your students as they sell their Wraps at the Fog Festival. Here is San Antonio Texas we would love some of your foggy weather at this time of the year. As you know it is the middle of summer here and we are going into what we call "The Dogs Days of Summer". The temperature is 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.7778 Celsius. Have a great weekend and a successful Fog Festival.
