Art in the Style of Hundertwasser

Art with Mrs Wistrand in Term 1
was about 'Buildings'.
We used blocks to create our own building-lined streets
and took photographs.

We looked at perspective.
We sketched around the photocopied photos then added trees and other features.

We made our own paintings of buildings in the style of Hundertwasser.

Hundertwasser was an Austrian painter
who lived and worked in New Zealand over a number of years.
He was also known for his architecture,
including the well-known Hundertwasser restrooms in Kawakawa, New Zealand.

What do you notice about his style of painting and architecture?

  1. Dear artists of B4,

I loved looking at your fantastic paintings! I thought it was very interesting to see how you made streets of houses with blocks, took photos, and then added details and colors onto the photocopies. How creative!

The paintings of buildings in the style of Hundertwasser were beautiful. I liked how many of them had different coloured windows in the buildings and how your suns had circles of colours.

I had never heard of Hundertwasser, but I really enjoyed learning about him and his artwork. Thanks for introducing his work to me!

  2. Dear B4
What fabulous art work - I love seeing what other classes around the world are doing, and this is really colourful and different - what a great end result.

I have seen a picture of the Hudertwasser restrooms in my 'Toilets of the World' book and always found them fascinating. They remind me of the work of Anton Gaudi, a Catalan artist, and in particular of the Parc Guell in Barcelona - have a look and see if you agree!

Thank you for showing the whole process of your art work - I like the way you built up your street with blocks first. What media did you use to create your pictures?

  3. Dear Mrs Monaghan
It is so nice to get your comment. The children from B4 are on term break just now, and will be back at school on 23 April.

I do agree that there is a similarity between the work of Hundertwasser and that of Gaudi. I saw Gaudi's cathedral when I visited Barcelona in 1985, but I have never visited the Hundertwasser toilets in NZ!

The children used a variety of media for each set of artworks, ranging from pencil, dye, vivid marker pen, colouring pencils and paint.

    Thank you for visiting us.

    regards
    Mrs McKenzie
