Sand between Your Toes

Last year we put up a post about lost socks, and our friend Mr Salsich in America was quite intrigued by the idea that children in New Zealand often play in bare feet.

This week his class put up a post on their blog asking their New Zealand friends 
about bare feet.

Mr Salsich's class thought it might be a good idea if they had a day to go bare foot in the classroom, but they needed some advice about whether or not 
they would get cold or sore feet.

B4 children prepared their comments during writing time this morning, 
before putting them up on Mr Salsich's blog.

Do you like to feel the grass under your feet and the sand between your toes?

Open the .... Revolving Door?

Sometimes it seems as though our classroom has a revolving door!

The new entrant class is growing, so this term 

we welcome Year 1s Nikki, Neil, Jordan, Lukah and Alex from B5, and Holly who is new to our school,

and we farewell some of our Year 3s  as they move to B3.

We have also farewelled Miss Esnouf who has returned to Australia for awhile, and we welcome Miss Marquet (Mar-kay) to our room.
We're looking forward to a great term of learning, with a great new team.

ANZAC Parade 2011

Today members of our school, and other community groups, marched 

in the  Anzac Day parade, 

to commemorate the lives lost in war.

ANZAC means Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, 

and the day is observed in 

both New Zealand and Australia.

This morning we gathered at the RSA (Returned Services Association) building and marched behind the pipe bands

to the cenotaph.

Words of remembrance were spoken,

the Roll of Honour for our district was read out,

and the wreaths were laid.

The brass band played 'God Save the Queen' and a lone trumpeter played 'The Last Post'.

Anzac Day is an important national day to many 

New Zealanders.

Dear Everybody

This is my class emblem. 

It took me about two days.

I chose a kiwi on the road, a rugby course and 

the computers in my class, 

because it's about my class and New Zealand.

Follow your Dreams

We always look forward to a Duffy 'Books in Homes' assembly.
This time we were lucky enough to have Christine Fernyhough speak to us. 

Chrissy is one of the founders of the Books in Homes scheme, 

which our school takes part in.

Chrissy told us to follow our dreams, something that she did when she moved from Auckland and bought a high-country farm several years ago.

After the assembly we collected the box of books for our class, and what did we do? ......

We read of course!

Postcard Project Up-date

We are so enjoying being part of the postcard project, created by Ms Leakey in NZ!

Every week or so another postcard arrives and we put it up beside our world map.

We are learning a lot of Geography this year.
We might need to use a larger wall soon!

This week and next, we will be writing some more postcards 

to send out to other classes on the list.
