What's the temperature where you live?

For measurement in maths this week B4 are looking at temperature.

We are hoping that visitors to our blog this week and next will comment on what the temperature is where they live.

Let us know:
Where you are
What time of day it is
What the temperature is (please show C or F)

It would be even more wonderful if visitors could comment several times over the week.

  1. Hi B4,
What a great idea, collecting temperatures from aroudn the world. I checked his one on the internet because I don't have a thermometer (but I'm sure the website is more accurate!) In Invercargill, at 5.38pm it was 16.5 °C.
I am originally from the UK, it's very cold and snowy over there at the moment and one place in Scotland was recorded to have a temperature of -17°C Check that out on your thermometer! I wonder if you know why it's hot here in NZ and freezing cold over in the UK?
I'll try and post a few more temperatures over the week.

  2. Here in Dunedin (South Island) NZ, we had a high of 30 degrees yesterday. It was uncomfortably hot! Today, we had a cruise ship visit our city and our high was a whopping 14 degrees with lots of sea mist... One extreme to the next down here in the south :)

  3. Hi B4,

In Tokomaru it is 10.06am at the moment, and we are at 14 degrees celsius (we are not sure how to find the little degrees button on the computer!) It looks like it is going to get much hotter as the day goes on, although there is a mild breeze at the moment.

We hope you get lots of temperatures from around the world - it will be interesting to see what you do with the data you collect.

    Dear B4,

It is 65˚F here in Los Angeles and it is about 2:30 P.M. (That is about 18˚C) As you can tell, the sun is shining! :-)

P.S. I make the degree symbol on my Mac by pressing the OPTION key + k. :-)

  5. Today (Tuesday, November 30) in Emeryville, Ontario (CANADA) it is unseasonably warm. Today reached a high of 13 degrees celius or 56 degrees fahrenheit. Tomorrow we are expecting much colder weather, which is typical at this time of year. It should only reach 0 degrees celius tomorrow (or 32 degrees fahrenheit - which is freezing! We can also expect some flurries tomorrow.
P.S. We're studying temperature this week as well!

Thank you to our commenters so far - Sarah, Room 1 Tokomaru School, msbee, Ourhomeschool blog, Mrs Yollis, and Room 143,

It seems to be a perfect week weather-wise to be making comparisons between northern hemisphere weather and that in the southern hemisphere!

Mrs Y♥llis, thank you for the handy hint about the ˚sign. That has lowered the frustration levels considerably.

  7. Hi B4,
I thought I'd drop by again today and update you on the weather! Nice and warm in NZ but not so much in the UK. The places I've chosen in the UK are where I have family living. It snowed in both places today.

    Invercargill, 6pm, 18.1 °C
    Durham, England (North) 6pm -1.4 °C
Hampton, England (South, just outside London) 6pm -0.2 °C

  8. Hello Mrs McKenzie & Class B4,

My name is Tina McAvoy and I am the Administrative Assistant at Innerwick Primary School in East Lothian, Scotland, UK. You have all kindly been adding comments to our school website over the last few weeks, so I thought that I would leave one for you.

At the moment most of the UK is having to endure severe snow and the Eastern part of the country has suffered the worst. Innerwick Primary is on the East coast of Scotland and our Head Teacher's room looks out over the North Sea. Innerwick Primary is now on it's 3rd day's snow closure and we are all waiting to see if we will get back tomorrow!!

Anyway, I live in a small village about 25 miles West of Innerwick and at 8.30am this morning, the temperature outside my house was -8 degrees!!

  9. We're always keen to help, what time of the day would it best suit us to measure the temperature here in Hamilton?

  10. Hi Melville Intermediate
The 3pm temperature might be a good one to have.
We are finding some trends between the northern and southern hemispheres already!
